Here is a brief resume of my background and experience. More details may be found throughout the site
Since the mid 1970s I have been almost exclusively involved in
various aspects of hotel, resort and casino projects, both new build and
refurbishment. My responsibilities have included specialist MEP design and
project management, general project management, "damage
control/troubleshooting" and various other functions usually intended to
bring errant projects back on track. Prior to that, I spent 8 years at sea
as an electrical engineering and deck officer.
With my many years experience in Asia and the
Indian Ocean and access to local resources as well as contacts with Architects,
Interior Designers, Landscape Architects, Golf Course Designers and specialist
consultants worldwide, a unique expertise is available to any person, company or
organization planning a hospitality project in these areas. Although presently
based in UK (chiefly for our children's education), I continue to work on
projects overseas.
Until August 2010 I was Technical & Development Director for FEE Group plc, a UK based group of companies involved in the leisure and gaming sector. I most recently worked on projects in Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Tunisia and Laos, with previous projects in Tunisia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Cambodia and China. I have also recently advised on a proposed 200 key resort in Maldives, two hotel/casino complexes in Namibia and various resort and hotel projects in several different locations. Although originally from the construction industry, I have spent much of the past 25+ years as Owner's Project Manager/Director, working for owners and operators on their new build and refurbishment hotel and resort projects to ensure they achieve the very best value, within agreed budgets and with on-schedule opening.
Incidentally, as more travellers, whether on business or vacation, support environmentally friendly hotels and resorts, this is an aspect of the hospitality industry which can only be ignored at the operator's risk. Energy management has become an essential ingredient in successful hotel and resort operations. Without it, rates are higher than they should be, profits suffer, and guests do not enjoy true value. My experience in energy conservation and management is an added asset during the design, installation and commissioning phases. I am also often asked to advise the engineering staff, and hotel management, on energy efficient operations.
